I've written in the past
about the dismal state of reading in America, and how depressing I, as an avid reader, find it. Today, however, I was pleased to discover via mssv.net
, that recent NEA study
shows that reading is on the rise again, especially among 18-24 year olds.
With any luck, this will result in an increase in demand for eBooks and eBook technology, so that we might finally start to see some of the advancements I'm looking for (such as my ultimate eBook reader
and my eBook store idea
). eBook technology does seem to be pretty steadily advancing towards what I'd like to see, and I think it may be only a matter of months before I finally see a device that convinces me to take the plunge (maybe even the Kindle 2, if it ever comes out).
